Homework is assigned Monday through Thursday. The homework sheet goes home each Monday. If you have a family emergency and your child cannot complete homework please send a note stating as such. Reading for thirty minutes and summarizing it nightly is part of homework.
There are times when longer assignments are expected to be done. Specifically, these could be writing pieces, learning contracts, or social studies or science projects.
When writing is unfinished in class it is usually due within a day or two in finalized form. The students have been working with models, templates, and rubrics of how it will be graded, so there should be no surprises.
In room 6 we will spend much of the year exploring Sacramento and California. Through Inquiry we will explore its history and how physical changes influenced it both culturally and environmentally. We will question these issues through the related science and literature we read and write about.
In order to move well through the year we will continue to be using a model of behavior school wide that emphasizes five guidelines for life:
TRUSTWORTHINESS- “I can be counted on.”
TRUTHFULNESS- “I am responsible and accountable.”
ACTIVE LISTENING- “I want to hear what you have to say.”
NO PUT DOWNS- “I only use positive words, actions, and body language.”
PERSONAL BEST- “I do my best.”
